From the Metropolitan Urban Indian Directors:
Minneapolis is built on Dakota land, and has long been home to a significant Native American Indian population. The Native people here are resourceful, resilient, and committed to our families, communities and cultures. Centuries of genocide and forced assimilation have created a range of challenges for 21st century American Indians. Native people make up a disproportionate number of the homeless population in Minneapolis. Causes of homelessness are related to economics, domestic violence, addiction, mental illness, and many other causes.
In recent weeks many people joined together to create a safe encampment near the Franklin/Hiawatha corridor. This community is comprised primarily of Native people, many with significant housing challenges. A broad coalition of partners and stakeholders are coming together to address the short-term, mid-term and long-term barriers to housing for the residents of this camp. Working together, we hope to find housing for the camp’s residents by the end of September, and certainly before the weather turns cold.
The Twin Cities comedy community is hilarious, powerful, and compassionate. We are going to harness these qualities to help another group of people in our community who really need it.
We are having a ONE NIGHT charity show with several AMAZING talents and we will be accepting donations and/or donated items (Water, utensils, hot cups, and Plastic Bins are in high need). Let's call that your ticket - please come and give what you can.

WHAT THE FUNDRAISER IS FOR:
DTMULSB is a fundraiser for the short film, “Little Men,” written by the filmmaker, Ayesha Adu. During the spring of this year, Ayesha Adu will produce and direct the film.
Set in 1989, Little Men is a compelling tale of two endearing 10-year-old boys, Andre and Marcus. Their friendship is tested after they discover a dead body on the way to school. An existential crisis occurs when one of the boys steals money from the victim’s wallet. What happens after they find the body, challenges them to think about their outlook on themselves, each other, and the world they live in.
The screenplay placed quarterfinalist at the Atlanta Film Festival Screenplay Competition and was also awarded a grant from the MN State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grant to complete the filming of it.
Right now, we need to raise additional funds to complete the shooting of Little Men. The amount needed is $5,500.00. This pays for the crew, props, costumes, locations, insurance, and additional equipment.
